You already have all the answers. They're right there, waiting within to be uncovered. They can't be found anywhere else but inside. There are many different ways on how to receive those answers. No one else will be able to give you your true answers. I tried to look for answers outside. In the end, it made me feel stuck, lost and disillusioned.
As I'm writing this, there is a distinct feeling I’m doing this more for myself than you, the reader - no offence. It feels like a gentle reminder from my soul to keep this wisdom present in my mind. So even though I use "you", "our" or "us" in this post, it's focus is just as much on the "me", "my" and "I".
Life is an inside job. The "inside" in "inside job" points to the terrain of our mental, emotional and spiritual makeup that distinguishes our thoughts, patterns, behaviours, beliefs, language and, as a consequence, our day-to-day experience of life.
There are a plethora of ways how we get distracted from this inside space to focusing all our attention on the outside, on the external. At least that has been true for me, and frankly, I still get side-tracked sometimes, yet it has become easier to catch myself when it happens.
Pervasive and sophisticated distractions are all around us, at all times. "Look here". "Do this". "Try that". Part of our current societal, media and economic landscape is to entice and enroll us into seeking pleasure, disguised as happiness. There is a crucial difference here worth noting: pleasure says "This feels good. I want more." whereas happiness is "This feels good. I am content. I am complete." (see "The myth of normal", by Gabor Maté, p.271). Needless to say, having us act out our activated pleasure circuits is far more profitable economically and socially than having us be content, fulfilled and not wanting more.
Thus, our attention has become a vital commodity in a highly lucrative monetization machine. For good or for worse. Maybe it has always been that way on some level.
To be following your own bliss, to create what you want and live the life that is in alignment with your highest values, desires and dreams, it is necessary to become aware when you veer off your path. To know when you veer off, a good starting point is to define for yourself what you truly want.
It's key to remind myself daily to fully trust that the answers are already there, inside, in my heart. I invite you to do the same. Trust your abilities and trust that life greatly rewards your courage required to venture into the unknown. It's an invitation to be fully yourself, with all the good, the bad and the ugly. It's you doing you. It's you owning all of what makes you You. It won't always be easy but the richness and embodied wholeness on the other side is well worth the temporary uncomfortableness.
When you start walking down that road, the oft-repeated phrase "Where attention goes, energy flows" will morph from just another quote to a lived experience. If we are not mindful with what we pay attention to, it's easy to allow ourselves to be dis-regulated, dis-empowered and ultimately dis-qualified from creating the life we truly desire. And that is a real tragedy as we stop forging our own path, stop believing in our own uniqueness, denying the world our gifts, selling ourselves short and becoming a castrated (pardon my French) version of ourselves.
Allow yourself to find the courage to embark on your path to find out exactly what it is that you want. Inspiration and massive action-taking will follow as a result of having created that clarity. The world will be a better place when you show up in your fullness and everyone will benefit from that. You either get to live as the creator, or you act out the victim.
It's one of the most challenging but also most rewarding paths to travel on. The invitation here is to own all of you and bravely step onto the stage of life!
